Key Information:

Today we are hosting a large game of Black Powder to refight the Battle of Isandlawana.

The Battle of Isandlwana was fought on on 22 January 1879.  It was the first major fight between the British army and the Zulu Kingdom.

A Zulu force of nearly 20,000 warriors attacked a section of the british main column numbering around 1,800 consisting of colonial and native troops and some civilians.  The British are widely regarded as having been poorly led and badly deployed.  The Zulus armed mostly with spear and shield and small number of stolen rifles which they were not trained to use managed to split and ultimately overwhelm and defeat the British.  The British lost some 1300 men while the Zulus lost around 1000.

It was a shocking loss for the British who had expected their technically vastly superior weapons and drilled training to win over the savage locals. How wrong they had been.

Ultimately the Zulu King was defeated after the British took a more aggressive approach and again marched into Zululand with a much larger equiped and prepared force which ultimately crushed the Zulu cause taking away any chance for the King to negotiate a peace agreement.

While we should be able to supply all the models required for the game suitable to the period will be wlecomed.

New players are also welcome and no experience of the Black Powder rules are required.
