Key Information:

Today we will be refighting a key part of the Battle of Fredericksburg, fought December 11th to 15th 1862.

Todays wargame will refight the events of the 13th of December 1862.

The town of Fredericksburg sits on the Rapphannock River.  The Union Army planned to cross the river at Fredericksburg and then march on towards the confederate capital of Richmond.

The Union army´s plan had been to cross the river in the middle of November.  However delays in the arrival of vital pontoon bridge building materials meant that by the time the Union army began their crossing the Confederate army had been assembled to confront them.

After two days of fighting the Union army was able to achieve the crossing under fire and subsequently fight their way through the town of Fredericksburg.  Once through the town the Union army was confronted by the confederate army well entrenched in defensive positions south of the city on a strongly fortified ridge known as Marye´s Heights.

The futile frontal attacks by the Union army on December 13 against entrenched Confederate defenders on the heights behind the city is remembered as one of the most one-sided battles of the American Civil War with Union casualties more than twice as heavy as those suffered by the Confederates.

Todays game will refight the Union assault against the Confederate armys position on Marye´s Heights.

We will provide all the miniatures and scenery required for todays battle.  However if you have suitable painted 28mm ACW miniatures then please feel free to bring them along.  More models can always be accommodated.
